Brighton Photo Fringe 2026

Every 2 years Photo Fringe delivers an inclusive festival and everyone is invited.

The Fringe runs from the 2nd to the 31st of October this year and I'm looking at some interesting, unconventional public space to exhibit in.

More to come...

The Honoring Eye

The Terrain Gallery's upcoming exhibition in NY's Soho, The Honoring Eye is beginning to take shape and a mid-September opening has tentatively been mooted.

I first exhibited there back in 2011, as part of This Great, Diverse City: How Should We See It? You can still see my contribution to that group show on the gallery's website, here. Watch this space for further details - if the fates allow I hope to attend the opening and look forward to greeting you there.

Urban Nature - Hidden Gardens

I'll also be participating with a mini-print in Lu Mazen's Urban Nature project at Graf Rumford in Munich, Germany from the 19th - 25th October. If you'll be in Munich here are event dates:

  • October 20, 2026, 6:00 PM: Opening - Curator's remarks, introduction of the project team, and participating artists.
  • October 21 - 24, 6:00 PM: Guided tours (approx. 30 minutes), followed by Artist Talk with 1–3 artists
  • October 23, Starting at 7:30 PM: Closing reception, music, and party

I participated in another "weekender" led by Laura El-Tantawy - a guest session with Harry Hardie of Here Press, "From Project to Photobook," at POST Creatives.

In addition to insights into the current state of photobook publishing, I got useful feedback on shifting my Gentrification in East Harlem project in a more personal direction. Watch this space for the future of this project. I also received an encouraging reaction to my book dummy for On Broadway.

u3a Photography Group

As mentioned last time, I started leading a new photography group at the Brighton and Hove u3a in April. In June we looked at shapes (as illustrated by the white circle shown in the picture) as organizing elements in our compositions; in July we considered the different types of contrasts that can lend interest and focus to our pictures.

u3a is one of the largest membership organizations in the UK. Its members come together to learn for fun in retirement making friends and finding community.

obBLOGato

Recent pictures on my blog, obBLOGato, have included a visit to Chichester and the Pallant House Gallery there, as well as a visit to the Royal Academy in London to see the extensive Tracey Emin retrospective. From earlier in July there are pictures from a trip to Lewes to see the Morris Dancing. To subscribe to the blog and receive a daily photograph in your email, please go here.
