February 2026

An occasional newsletter about recent, current and upcoming work from my studio.

Gentrification in East Harlem

In the US last summer I was able to continue my research and complete the main photography for a longer term personal project on the changes in East Harlem, near where I grew up, in collaboration with primary school classmates. Starting with Bruce Davidson's landmark East 100th Street, I have tracked the changes in the neighbourhood since then. It has now reached a stage where I'm delighted to be able to post the 4-page project, Gentrification in East Harlem, on my website.

Alone Together, Together Alone

I'm thrilled to make available an American edition of the book version of my Modern Romance project for customers in the US. The American edition is an updated version, with slightly larger dimensions (10"x8" vs the UK's 10"x7"). It also more fully comprehends the contribution of my partner and collaborator, Margaret Haggerty. The UK version remains available as well.

Brighton Art Book Fair

The Phoenix Art Space hosted the annual Brighton Art Book Fair in early December and I was there at the Evoke / Provoke Collective table selling copies, of the UK edition of Alone Together, Together Alone: a modern romance, as well as some lovely mounted 7x5" prints. Over the course of the 2 days I met lots of other artists and had some fruitful discussions, as well as selling some books and prints.

Neither Here nor There

I'm not sure of the cause, the ubiquity and pervasiveness of the online world, or the failure to invest in social infrastructure, but it feels like there are more and more liminal spaces, taking an ever larger share of the spaces between our destinations. I seldom go out without seeing new ones to photograph, often with billboards unironically advertising something elsewhere. The growing collection can be seen in my ongoing project, Neither Here nor There.

obBLOGato

On my daily blog, obBLOGato, February has begun with some seascapes, shot on a cold winter afternoon as I watched starlings gather at Brighton's West Pier preparatory to their dusk murmuration nearer to the Palace Pier.

Please feel free to get in touch, and let me know if you'll be in the Brighton/Hove area.

On Broadway

photographic artist Latest Work and News October 2025 An occasional newsletter about recent, current and upcoming work from my studio. We're delighted to be back in Brighton (well, Hove, actually) since early September. On Broadway Since 2004 I've been photographing people plying their trades and living their lives on Broadway in New York. There's a startlingly wide array of people, doing all sorts of things, up and down Broadway. This past summer in NY, I returned to the project, bringing it...
