February 2025

An occasional newsletter about recent, current and upcoming work from my studio.

As a participant in the CRUX Photography Research Network I’ve been focusing on the gentrification of the NY neighborhood where I lived from age 10 - 18, including the lower edge of East Harlem and the northern tip of Yorkville on the Upper East Side. I’ve started meeting with old primary school classmates and people from the community and photographing both the sites that remain and those that have been replaced by luxury apartment blocks, yoga studios, and Starbucks, including on East 100th Street, the setting for Bruce Davidson’s eponymous book. I'm planning an initial presentation in April and will post the Eventbrite public link to the Crux Online Salon in my next newsletter.

Views in Transition at WRAP

Images from Modern Romance are still showing as part of the Evoke/Provoke collective’s participation in Views in Transition at Wrap Brighton (83 Queens Rd, Brighton BN1 3XE). If you’re in Brighton please stop by and have a look.

Travel

After returning to the US from the UK at the end of last October, we left New York again and have spent January traveling in Southern California, visiting family and friends in Oceanside and Santa Monica and passing through several other adjoining and overlapping towns, like San Diego, La Jolla, Carlsbad, Encinitas, and walking over 160 miles, camera in hand.

The sun and the quality of the light as well as the remarkably different flora have most attracted my photographic interest. You can see some of my casual images, appearing all this month on my blog, obBLOGato.
